Plum flower
Why are field flowers colorful, but the flowers on trees are commonly white? I think small field flowers compete with each other or play different roles, so they must be distinct for insects and birds. Tree flowers win by their quantity. They give off much smell which spreads at large distance. Insects feel the smell even before they see the tree.
